座間味村獲れる山桃（ヤマモモ）は、島の人々に古くから愛されている「春の訪れを告げる赤い宝石」のような存在です。
沖縄県内でも座間味の山桃は有名で、特に高月山（たかつきやま）周辺などに自生しており、収穫時期には島中が活気づきます。

• 時期： 本土では6月〜7月が旬ですが、暖かい座間味では4月中旬〜5月上旬頃と非常に早いです。

• 見た目と味： 1〜2cmほどの赤紫色の丸い実で、表面には細かな突起があります。甘酸っぱく、松ヤニのような爽やかで独特な香りが特徴です。

• 希少性： 収穫できる期間がわずか2週間程度と短く、傷みも早いため、市場に出回ることは滅多にない「幻の果実」です。
