The Anesthesiology Board Runner is the contact person who will help facilitate your experience the day you visit the operating room. You can find them in front of the main OR board or call them (206-987-2433). Please meet the board runner so they can help plan your day.
The Anesthesiology Board Runner will help you find scrubs, locate the restrooms, describe the layout of the operating room and answer any questions you may have. In addition, they can help you find the best operating room(s) to meet the goals of the rotation.
The operating room can be an intimidating environment. Often a patient’s family member is present in the operating room during induction. We hope the following suggestions are helpful regarding how and when to introduce yourself to the anesthesia team in your assigned rooms.
Please introduce yourself to the attending anesthesiologist before the patient comes back to the room. The fellow, resident or CRNA in the room can help you find the attending anesthesiologist.
Please communicate to the attending anesthesiologist your role, and your experience and training level. We train a variety of airway learners with different skill levels. Please share with them your defined goals for the day.
Please do not enter the room and introduce yourself in front of patients or families. The attending anesthesiologist can introduce you at the best time if they feel this is appropriate based on the patient/family.
