Section 3: 2023-24 District Accreditation Status
Pursuant to TEC §§39.051 and 39.052 and 19 TAC §97.1055, TEA annually assigns one of four accreditation statuses to each district in the state:
Accredited
Accredited-Warned
Accredited-Probation
Not Accredited-Revoked
In assigning an accreditation status to a district, TEA considers:
Academic accountability ratings
Financial accountability ratings
Data integrity
Program-area deficiencies identified through RDA
Due to litigation, the issuance of 2023 academic accountability ratings was delayed pending a judicial ruling, which in turn postponed the release of 2023-2024 accreditation statuses. In April 2025, the Fifteenth Court of Appeals ruled that TEA could release 2023 accountability ratings, and the ratings for 2023 were finalized on August 19, 2025. As a result of this delay, the issuance of the 2023-2024 accreditation statuses is outside of the normal release cycle.
*Districts can expect the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 accreditation statuses to be issued in the spring.
