It is a summative benchmark on student progress of focus standards mastery. It is taking the place of the District Writing Assessment this year as our district multiple measure for the state and has been negotiated to administer 3 times per year. You can use this data formatively or summatively for how you see fit.
Absolutely. Whatever site-based assessment practices you have in place, please continue those systems. IABs, FIABs, and other assessment tools/platforms can and should be used as multiple measures to gather information on your students’ progress throughout the year in short and medium cycles.
It’s different, but not extra. It takes the place of District Writing, which takes multiple days to administer and score. These are designed to be brief (roughly 6-12 questions each) and are machine scored with immediate data for teachers to use for grades, formative use, etc.
Input from the ARC teachers on reasonable windows will be discussed and solidified after our meeting on September 10, 2020. It has been negotiated to administer the assessments 3 times per year.
A TK report card has been built to pilot this capability, but we continue to wait for the bridge to happen between Synergy and DnA (formally Illuminate). Once this happens, we can begin testing this again.
If students knew less than 10 letters on the initial assessment, reassess all letters and sounds.
Results from external platforms, such as ESGI for TK and Kinder assessments, as well as running records for grades 1 and 2, will need to be input into Illuminate.
Yes, there will be different content and possibly item type assessed, but they will assess the same standards.
These are required by the state and take the place of the District Writing Assessment as our multiple measure and have been negotiated to administer 3 times per year.
An initial benchmark (baseline) can be used as a diagnostic assessment, but the purpose of these is for summative data at trimester points.
You may have to provide time for them to make it up, but scores for all students are needed.
The assessments are designed to be flexible and give the teacher the best choice for each student.
Work with your principal on potential interventions.
Yes, have the student use the same quick code and make sure that you still have your administration active.
The test was designed to do it independently, but given possible limited exposure to technology, teachers may need to put some scaffolds into place for some students if administering remotely.
Students (and their parents) will have access to the test from their home via access code or through Google Classroom. Teachers will have access to data to share with parents.
We made every attempt with the resources we have to mirror IABs, SBAC Content Explorer, and meet the expectations in the Common Core Companion Guide for vocabulary, content, and item type.
We suggest utilizing GoGuardian to monitor and lock tabs as necessary during testing.

Understood. This is a test measuring mastery of negotiated focus standards that they likely had no exposure to in the previous grade. Please keep in mind this is a benchmark and we are measuring growth throughout the year. It will hopefully give teachers information on what vocabulary to target for greater levels of success on the next administration. Please refer to your Common Core Companion Guide for vocabulary students will need to show mastery of the standards.
Teachers will have the option to deliver the assessment via Google Classroom or by sharing on another platform (i.e. Clever) via a link generated by DnA (formally Illuminate). Students will only need to know their ID number.
You can also create practice tests for your students within DnA by Renaissance (formally Illuminate).
Please work with the student’s case carrier and your OSICC to brainstorm ideas. Please refer to Accessibility Resources page of this website.
Although there are a number of variables that come with administering an assessment remotely, every effort should be made to foster a typical testing environment for these benchmark assessments.
Under administration settings you can choose daily window to set a start and end time, if you do not want your students accessing it outside of the school day or when you can actively monitor synchronously or through GoGuardian.
