If instructional strategies are the overarching categories, then instructional techniques are the specific things we do in the classroom. For instance, while "note-taking" is a strategy, using Cornell notes or Thinking Maps are the specific techniques.

The Absorb & Connect/Do (AbCD) Learning Cycle reminds educators that students can only absorb a certain amount of education before students must connect that information to prior learning or do something with it. If students have reached their cognitive capacity for absorbing information, new information will simply "fall off" and the time is effectively wasted. Therefore, we recommend that the class stop every 5-20 minutes, depending on the age and developmental level of students, to give students a chance to connect or do something with the new learning.
