It is highly recommended that you rent an instrument for beginning band. Most rental programs include insurance or charge a very small fee for coverage. This is important because accidents do happen, and instrument repairs can be very expensive.
Most rental companies also allow you to switch to a different instrument during the school year if needed. This is uncommon, but occasionally there is a reason for a student to switch instruments midyear.
