All students will take leadership to learn the fundamental of being a leader. They will put this into practice each Friday as they work with K-5 students during our Phoenix Friday activities.
Main concepts include a focus on relationships, the importance of learning names and the importance of character. Teamwork and collaboration will also be a core concept.
Daily Agenda (Q1)
Explore the world of science, healthcare and beyond in this Elective Series. The first course, Intro. to Biotechnology, will include how to pipet, micropipet, foundational labs skills, sterile techniques and how to isolate and visualize DNA. In following years you will explore the history of medical science, medical terminology and basic physiology, emergency response fundamentals and the issues of global healthcare. We will also dive into how 3-D printers are advancing science as we learn to design and print.
Build a foundation of fine art skills in a variety of mediums such as paint, pastel and pencil as well as applied arts such as digital media, 3D printing and more. Practice the art of communication as you develop skills in broadcasting, advertising and filmmaking using our brand new ipads and the other fun tools in our innovation center.
This course will expose students to successful careers in agriculture and introduce the idea and concept of urban gardening. Students will pair their growing skills with culinary arts and making decisions on the global scale. Students will get their hands dirty and build partnerships with VUSD's first certified organic farm, Sa’Aliyas Ranch.
At the end of the year students will be tasked with an entrepreneur project where they will choose their concept and will present their idea(s) to not only students but leaders in the community. They will learn the concepts of entrepreneurship and business as they dive into their passion.
