Electives, PE, and More!

Electives

Electives change year to year, but generally students get to choose one of 3 different elective offerings or Community Service Leader (student aide) per quarter. Some of our previous electives include:

Robotics
3D Printing
Ukulele
Art Techniques with pastel, colored pencil, and watercolor
Cartooning
Crochet
Improv
ASB Event Planning - Putting on school carnival and school talent show
Game coding in Scratch
Independent Art

PE

Students do not "dress out" for PE. We do not have a locker room. They are expected to come to school in clothes/shoes appropriate for PE Mon-Th. PE is first thing in the morning.

Students do 2 days per week of sports education and 2 days per week of conditioning/mile run.

Some of the sports we do in PE:

Capture the Flag
Ultimate Frisbee
Basketball
Hockey
Soccer
Volleyball

Sports

We currently have a Middle School Cross Country team run by a volunteer parent. We would LOVE to offer more sports teams but need more volunteer parent coaches.

Clubs

Clubs are run by volunteer parents. Some of the clubs we have offered include:

Art
Science
3D Printing
Yearbook (this club produced the yearbook for the whole school!)
Sign Language

Field Trips

Our biggest field trip is our 8th grade trip to CIMI (Catalina Island) and we fundraise for two years prior so that there are no out of pocket expenses.

We also take at least one full day field trip as a middle school with 6th-8th grades. Places we have visited so far include:

Reagan Library including the simulation experience
Santa Barbara Sea Center

We are looking to build up to more field trips.

Events

The Middle School hosts two major events for ATLAS. These are fundraisers for our CIMI trip.

School Carnival - Our TK - 5th grade students love playing the games and winning prizes at our School Carnival held at the end of Leadership Night!
School Talent Show - ATLAS has talent and it shows at the annual Talent Show. Middle School plans and hosts this event.
PTA hosted Middle School dance - a different theme each year!
PTA hosted Middle School only movie night on campus
Other favorite schoolwide PTA events include:
- Dia de Los Muertos family night
- Skating Plus fundraiser nights
- Ninja Warrior Color Run fundraiser (Middle School students help run the stations for the elementary students throughout the day before it is their turn to run the course!)
- All school Glow Dance
