Our project is full of activities from the very beginning to the end. Apart from the "core" activities described in our application form, there is a great deal of activities, videos, and outcomes which each school has done to support the project or even to magnify the dissemination of it. Please follow the following links.
And finally... the last newsletter of our project, presented by the Bulgarian students, in which they summarise the last activities of our project.
Activities, competitions and of course our last mobility in Spain, which has held in San Fernando at the beginning of May.
At the end of the newsletter, an open question asks the reader about how communication, the topic of our project, will evolve in the future... What do you think?
Timelines by country:
The Giant Timeline is one of the most important activities which we have done during our project, as it summarises all the contents under study in an sequenced and organised way, and also because during its construction, lots of activities, pictures, texts, assignments, videos, etc. were created with the students.
There is one at each school, and now, it decorates a common space so that not only their creators, but also the rest of the school students, staff, parents and visitors can visit it. Term by term, each Timeline has been growing and growing, adding new pieces of information, from the origins of communication to nowadays and beyond.
To see the memory of the activity click here.
The exhibition is divided into six sections or six panels depending on how each school has organised it. Each section or panel correspond to a history period.
Our last common activity in the project was about abstract painting and feelings. We wanted to check if “Abstract Art” can “communicate” and if those feelings arisen had to do with cultural background.
For this activity, whose coordinating country was our Finish team, they created a short video with six different abstract painting, and a questionnaire for students to tick which feelings they had while observing the picture.
Please have a look at the activity conclusions and answer graphics below:
Thanks to the Croatian students for this wonderful video with their memories about the mobility to Spain which was held between the 7th and the 13th of May 2017. It is a pleasure to get to know the mobilities from the perspective of students, as there are always scenes and pictures not seen on teachers' own videos which show these trips from a very interesting point of view!
During the last the day of the mobility to Spain, the Communication Fair took place. It consisted on an interactive representation of the Giant Timeline which we had been creating for the last two years.
One of the stands of the fair, was a radio set, where the local radio "Radio la Isla" was broadcasting live their morning magazine "Vivir en la Isla" (Living on the Island)
On the left, you can listen to all the interviews on a list created on Sound Cloud:
"Welcome to the Communication Fair. An exhibition about the history of communication. From Old Ages to nowadays. A final product of the Erasmus+ Project "Communication and Culture"
This is the introductory text of the Spanish Communication Fair Audioguide. An audioguide which was especially designed to translate the texts of the exhibition organised for the last mobility of the project. The audioguide is available for Android and iPhone, and through it, teachers and students had the opportunity to read and listen to the different sections of the exhibition.
For the mobility in Spain, each coordinator was asked to produce a short video to present their school to the Spanish students audience. These videos were shown to present each delegation in a fun and dynamic way.
Each school had to produce a video using their own imagination: presentation, TV reporters, documentary. These are the final products, we hope you like them as we enjoyed watching them all!
During the last term of our project and related to the topic of Communication in the future, we held the "Future Inventions Competition". Each school told their students to present original inventions which could exist in the future; they had to produce videos, presentations, photographs, models in order to explain their project. Then, each school voted for their own finalist, and finally the six finalists were voted in the different countries to get to the winner of the competition, who was the Polish student, Julia Byśkiniewicz, for her Multifunctional Mirror. Congratulations!
Above you can see the final products for the Inventions Competition: 1) iPrise (Spain) - 2) Pet Spy (Croatia) - 3) Multifuncional Mirror (Poland) - 4) Bracelet phone (Bulgaria) - 5) Future Chip (Finland) - 6) Home Robot (Italy) - Please note the order on this web page is at random.
The students from Italy have been in charge of producing the fifth newsletter of the project. The topic of this issue is communication nowadays, with articles related to the social networks, the risks of the internet and a very interesting survey about the use of the internet. We hope you like it!
One of the methodologies dealt with in our project is "Visible thinking" and "Thinking Routines" and mindmaps were under study (please refer to teachers' handouts). During the second term of the second year and especially after the training sessions in Croatia, the country in charge of this methodology, the mindmaps activity was put into practice.
After showing the students the difference between conceptual maps and mindmaps they produced their mindmaps (visual thinking resource) in order to help them memorising speeches and presentations. The ability to talk in public has a paramount importance in today's world. Through this activity students could learn to do a fun and easy activity to help them with their studies.
The weeks before Easter we held our fourth round of videoconferences. This time of course, the topic was how Easter is celebrated in our countries. Students prepared in advance their topics and created their powerpoints. This time matchings were Bulgaria - Poland / Italy - Croatia and Finland / Spain
During the mobility to Finland, the students from Spain recorded little pieces of video. On their return, they pasted them together, added some pictures and put titles and ... voilá the result!
Hope you like it!
So Christmas came, and with it a new round of videoconferences between the six countries which participate in our project. It was time to speak and see, for another time, our new friends, whom we have got to know in previous mobilities and also to get to know the new ones, who we will meet in our last two mobilities in february and may, Finland and Spain.
The topic of these videoconferences was, of course, Christmas. How is Christmas celebrated in Bulgaria, Croatia, Italy, Finland, Poland and Spain? Please have a look at the presentations they created to show their partners about this special time of the year.
The matchings for the videoconferences were:
In order to prepare the videoconferences students worked during previous lessons to write the questions they wanted to ask to their partners. These questions were exchanged in advance with the other partner to help understanding and ensure the communication engagement.
The students from Poland have been in charge of writing, designing and releasing the issue number 4 of our Students' Newsletter.
In this issue you will read about the activities they have done for the current period in the history of communication (the Mass Media), a comprehensive and easy-to-read diary of the mobility to Croatia, and lots of cultural information about Poland, which they have used to create the materials the needed for the time-line.
Well done, team Poland!
After returning from our fantastic mobility in Croatia, Team Poland created this video about the events of the week.
Please listen carefully to the voice-over, it's a great summary of what we did during this week in Croatia.
During the first term of the second school year (2016/17) one of the activities of our Erasmus+ Project Communication and Culture was to produce TV Commercials about our national inventions. The students had to pre-produce, produce and post-produce their videos in class, using cooperative learning methodologies. (see lesson plan)
The final results have been gathered together in a Vimeo Video Collection, you can watch them here https://vimeo.com/album/4269939
On our Jancovak Park visit, we had the opportunity to participate in a Presentation and later workshop about the Glagolitic Alphabet, the oldest slavik alphabet. Below you will find the presentation and the script of the presentation.
One of the activities of our mobility to Poland was the recording of a TV commercial. For this, and thanks to ZVECEVO, a local chocolate factory, we recorded this commercial with the help of 32 students who, in the our languages, gave their opinions about the chocolate with rice, an invention by the company Zvecevo which we also visited before filming.
During the mobility to Croatia, the Spanish team recorded this documentary with the different activities in the programme.
This documentary gathers the visits, activities, workshops and experiences of both students and teachers.
Team Spain in representation of all the others teams would like to thank Lidia Gerstman, her team, families and students for the hospitality of the Croatian people and the organization of this amazing week.
During our mobility to Croatia we were visited by Hravstska Television channel who were with us during a morning recording students and teachers as well as interviews to produce their piece of news.
This is the final piece of news which was broadcasted on the 28th of october, 2016 at 15:45 on channel 4.
During our mobility to Croatia and our visited were divided in two groups visited two local radio stations. To listen to the interviews click here (interview on Radio Vallis Aurea - Interview on Soundset)
At first, this activity was not on our programme nor application form, but during our transnational meeting in Italy, the Finnish team suggested doing it and we all agreed to insert it in our project, as a way to disseminate the importance of languages in our united Europe.
During the transnational meeting days, the Finnish team recorded the different participants speaking in their our languages, and for the Europe Day of Languages which is hold every year on the 26th of September, the students from our different schools around Europe had to guess which language was which. It was a fun way to discover new languages, intonation and rhythm.
On the left you can see the way the Finnish team proposed the activity to their students, through QR codes they could scan with their mobile phones. The winner got a voucher for free ice-cream!
In other countries, for example, in Spain, a five-day competition was posted on the project Facebook page. Each day a different video which followers had to identify. A fun way to introduce new languages!

After three beautiful days in Italy, where teachers held meetings to recap and organize the project, this video was released with the summary of the programme.
We all must be thankful to the teachers from Colombo School in Taranto, Antonella's family and of course all those students who (although still on holidays) participated in the welcoming ceremony!
Grazie mille!
During our first year we did lots of activities in our schools. In the Transnational Meeting held in Taranto (September 2016) all the coordinators presented their partners a video or presentation with the summary of all of them. You can see them here.

Before the mobility to Bulgaria, our Bulgarian partners sent us this presentation for students to work in class. It's about embroidery. Traditional Bulgarian embroidery is characterized by great regional and local variety. There is a wide diversity of styles, with flat, raised and open-work stitches.
After the Medieval Age period, the can find the Modern Age, a long period after the invention of the printing press and the XX century. Our team from Croatia created this newsletter for students.
After the mobility to Bulgaria this video was created to share online and disseminate the work, experiences and learnings done during the mobility to Vidin in Bulgaria. https://vimeo.com/172138041
We matched all the students in classes where the project is implemented in pairs, so that we created a "red" list and a "blue" list In turns, (blue list or red list) the students contacted their pals talking about different topics pre-established. They attached powerpoints, photographs, videos, etc... and talk about simple topics. Once the other colour list received the email, they had to reply to the first email in return. At the end, the formal email situation changed into an informal email exchange, where students started to communicate with others for the sake of knowing new people. The formal and controlled situation gave place to an activity which helped them practice English on their own without the interaction of a teacher. To see the original documents, click here
During our project we held different videoconferences with the rest of the schools. Scheduled to be held during the same days, each pair of countries decided day and time and students spoke about different topics previously arranged. Some of the topics included the presentation of a powerpoint, where students showed to their colleagues on the other side of the screen the works done previously in class. The topics where chosen by general interest, but as the main purpose of this activity was to communicate, practice English and have fun, topics were so common as life in the different countries (lifestyle), education systems, free time, what to do after school, description of countries, counties and hometowns, etc.
During two months we held a "Secret Codes Competition" based on the secret codes which were used during the Second War World II. This activity was scheduled after the Italy mobility and the visit to the submarine in the Taranto Naval Base, and consisted on different codes created by a different country each which the others had to decode. If nobody replied in the following 48 hours, a clue was given on the facebook account. Students were really motivated and expected the new code with expectation. (On the right you will find an example of code) - Original document here
Our Croatian team students created this documentary about our mobility to Taranto (Italy) as a way to communicate the rest of the students in every single country the experiences and learnings of their interesting trip to Italy. https://vimeo.com/172137028 Also, our Spanish team created this video with photos of the project: https://vimeo.com/172132084
One of the activities of the Erasmus+ project was the Student's newsletter, published every three months by a different country. This is the second newsletter, written by the Finnish team about the Medieval Age Period
Being the topic of "Communication" our topic thread throughout the project, the Dictionary of Proverbs of Sayings was the final product of the second term of our project, where we dealt with the Medieval Age period, from where a great deal of proverbs still exist today. Our students selected the "common" proverbs which existed in all of our languages (same words, or same idea but with different words even topic) and then selected some "local" proverbs which do not exist in other languages. We divided the work so that each school had to illustrate a set of proverbs, giving as a result a very nice dictionary.
Please follow these links for the three parts of the dictionary.

The Giant-Time-Line is an exhibition consisting of six different panels/sections (depending on the schools) which is situated in an important place at each school and was built term after term by adding a new section on the topics dealt with during the term. The exhibition consists of information about the history of communication, but it also includes QR codes to be captured with electronic devices such as mobile phones or tablets with documentaries, films, videos created by the students, etc. Each panel section refers to a different period in the history of human communication, i.e (Prehistory and Old Ages, Middle Ages, Renaisance, Modern Age, Contemporary Age and Beyond Today, therefore it also features new forms of communication including telepathy which is under study)
Each country is developing its own giant time-line, at the end of the project we will show you all the different exhibitions, but as a sample, here you will find some photos from Italy. To see the suggested activities according the different Multiple Intelligences, read the following document.
During our mobility to Poland, as one of the activities to be done during mobilities, the Spanish team filmed the TV documentary about the activities carried out during the week. Communication is the topic of our project and TV has played a paramount role in the history of Communication. You can watch the documentary on the following link:https://vimeo.com/149703178
Apart from our International (official) Facebook account in English, local Facebook pages were opened in order to disseminate our project in the local area (students, teachers, parents, community). These are the links:
It was important to get connected, so we created the international Facebook account, written in English so that teachers, parents and students alike could get informed about the progress of the project. This is the link to the official project facebook:https://www.facebook.com/communicationerasmus
One of the activities of our Erasmus+ project is the Students’ Newsletter, which is published every three months and it is written by a different country each issue. The Spanish team was in charge of writing and designing the first newsletter, which has just been published. It is about the history of communication in the Prehistory and Old Ages. The main objective of these newsletters is that students know what the project is dealing with at that moment. It is the same topic as the Giant Time Line, another key activity.
One of the first activities we carried out was the choice of our logo. If we look up the meaning of the word “logo” in a dictionary we read: “Symbol, sign or emblem. It is a tool to build an identity for the organization to generate favourable thoughts and feelings about the organization. It is designed for easy recognition of an organization”. The process was as follows: each country would choose its logo and the six finalists would be voted on Facebook. The winner of the International contest was Federica De Mitri, from Italy. Federica explained that she wanted to contain all the elements of the theme of the Erasmus + Project: a tunnel of binary code, that allows us to decrypt the computer language, from which flows the current tool that make the fastest Communication in the world possible: the optical fiber. At the end of the optical fiber cables she placed the flag of each partner state and finally in the foreground the image for excellence used to mark the evolution of man. - Original document here
