Valentine Community Schools follows the I Love U Guys Foundation (iloveuguys.org) Standard Response Protocol (SRP)
The SRP provides consistent, clear, shared language and actions among all students, staff and first responders for all hazards. It is action based, and allows organizations, first responders, students, and parents to share a specific vocabulary for quick and coordinated action. It also acts as a tool for training which develops the muscle memory necessary to respond appropriately in moments of crisis. Our schools continually practice the SRP commands during drills to ensure that muscle memory is building and staying strong!
The SRP is based on five actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter. Listed below is more information about the SRP and each of the actions. School will notify parents via text/call if any action is held during the school day. We encourage parents and guardians to keep their contact info updated with the school's offices so that you recieve these important messages.
Stay away. Do not go to the school. We understand this can be an emotional time but coming to the school may interfere with procedures. Only public safety personnel will be allowed in or near a school during an emergency situation.
Do not call. Do not call the school or security staff. We understand you may want to communicate with your student during an emergency, but calling may prevent them from hearing important instructions.
Be informed. Monitor your phone, email, district social media channels, local law enforcement or fire social media channels and local news. Valentine Community Schools provides fast and accurate information to its community. In some situations, accurate information can take a long time to verify and share. Please be patient.
Be ready. When you are asked to pick up your student, come quickly and bring your identification to the reunification location communicated to you. Valentine Community Schools will only release students to adults listed on that student’s PowerSchool page. Make sure anyone who could pick up your student in an emergency is listed. This can include neighbors, friends or other family members.
