In VCS, instructional support comes in a variety of forms all with the purpose of maximizing individual student success for those who are in need of specialized education services. Our instructional support departments use specific assessment and intervention techniques to help remove educational or behavioral stumbling blocks for all students.
The mission of the Vance County Schools Exceptional Children Department is to embrace and support the diverse needs and abilities of all learners to foster successful, productive members of society.
With a focus on equity and the whole child, MTSS in VCS encompasses well-defined tiers of instruction and support in the areas of academics, behavior and social-emotional learning. Each tier of support increases in intensity from one level to the next.
Tier 1 (Core): focus on school-wide or whole class instruction.
Tier 2 (Supplemental): focus on small group intervention or enrichment.
Tier 3 (Intensive): focus on individualized support for a few or small number of students with advanced enrichment or intervention needs.
The English as a Second Language program provides support to help ensure that all students receive appropriate instruction in the English language to master the content and develop the skills required for their grade level.
