Why do we take notes?... Who are they for?... Can we teach/model effective note-taking skills?...
Think back to your own experiences when you were learning something that was challenging for you. How did you process what you were learning? How did you learn to personalize your own reflective note-taking skills?
We take notes for several reasons:
to help us concentrate and listen effectively,
to remember information that can't be found elsewhere and is unique to the learning experience, and
to create a resource for preparing for an assessment.
Notes are for the learner! Engaging in the act of notetaking by selecting what to write down increases your understanding. Developing notetaking skills are essential for processing and organizing thoughts. The more personal the notes, the greater likelihood the information will be easier to recall in the future. Hence, Notes to My Future Forgetful Self...

Make a Vision Board!
Ask your class to refelct (in groups). What do they think would be helpful and essential to remember? Create a whole-class vision board! You may ask groups to make a list of what they feel is essential to remember, then huddle as a class to colletively create a vision board.
Co-Created Notes!
Just like making a vision board you can ask your class to refelct (in groups) on what they think would be helpful and essential to remember. Then, let each group create and submit their own one-pager.
