Mathematics Philosophy

Mathematics is the study of quantity, space, structure, and change which allows students to find order in the world. Fundamentally, all students require access to a rigorous, concept-based mathematics curriculum that builds increasing levels of sophistication and ensures the development of deep mathematical understanding. As students build computational and representational fluency, they will be able to solve problems of increasing complexity in more efficient ways. Furthermore, students need to be able to recognize the relevance of mathematics to their lives and communicate their understanding of mathematics in a variety of ways. Through high-quality, engaging mathematics opportunities, students apply mathematical thinking in authentic ways and have an appreciation for mathematics in their world.

Our Role

We, as Instructional Coaches with VBCPS are teachers working with teachers as collaborative partners to create and deliver high-quality instruction for every student, every day.

support teachers as they implement their professional goals and schoolwide initiatives.
model effective instructional practices that engage all learners in high cognitive demand.
provide resources and facilitate reflection for teachers to maximize student learning.
work with teachers to differentiate instruction for all learners--from remediation to enrichment.
