What do we do?

Our productions are 

• Fall full length play

• Spring musical

• Winter one act - a VHSL competition activity

All auditions are open to the entire school. Whole school auditions are mandatory for the VHSL one act per VHSL regulations.

When do we do it?

• Fall Play

Fall play auditions are usually the second week of school, and the play is usually the end of October or the beginning of November. We schedule the Fall play date around the football schedule, so the dates vary year to year depending on our home and away games.

• VHSL Winter One Act**

VHSL Winter one act auditions are usually the week after the Fall play closes. If the Fall play is in October, we might take a week off. If the Fall play is in November, then it's usually closing night on Saturday and auditions for VHSL One act on Tuesday. The dates of the show depend on when the host school sets the competition. In terms of dates, it varies between Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday weekend and the last weekend in January. The competition performance is an all day event. We arrive at school early enough to load our set and props and drive to the host site for an 8:00 A.M. arrival, and we stay until awards, which are usually around 5:30-6:00 P.M. Each member of the VHSL one act team is required to attend the entire day's event. Friends and family may go and see the competition play, be we also perform a preview here at Green Run about a week before the VHSL event.

• Spring Musical

We often hold a boot camp for the musical, teaching the audition songs and dance a week before auditions. Bootcamp traditionally happens end of January, right after the VHSL show closes. Auditions are End of January/early February and the performances are usually in April. Depending on Spring Break, our musical has been in March and in May. 

• Rehearsals

Our rehearsals run from 2:00 - 4:30 everyday from the first read through until production. The only time this is different are three evening rehearsals the week the musical opens; we have 5:00-9:00 P.M. rehearsals on Monday-Wednesday the week the musical opens. Attendance it taken at every rehearsal. Not every person is needed at every rehearsal. Each cast and crew member will receive a schedule the first week of rehearsal or earlier so that they know when they need to stay after school.

how do we communicate?

We use the Remind app, which can also be accessed on computers and Chromebooks to send out communications, share files, etc. Each show has its own Remind group.

how do i know if i can do it?

** VHSL One Act rules

*Winter one act is also a VHSL competition. Students hoping to be a part of the VHSL One Act play must meet VHSL GPA, course enrollment, and course standing requirements. Each student must hold a 1.5 or higher GPA, be taking a certain amount of courses (different for 4x4 versus A/B courses), and have passed a specific number of courses in the previous semester (again the number depends upon 4x4 versus A/B courses.) If you are curious about whether  you qualify, your school counselor is best equipped to answer that question.
