The diploma type you pursue requires you to take certain classes and pass certain tests. Once you determine course requirements for your diploma type, you can use that information to select courses for next school year. To graduate with a Standard Diploma, a student must earn at least 22 standard units of credit and 5 verified units of credit. Students earn standard credits by successfully completing required and elective courses. Students earn verified credits by successfully completing required courses and passing associated end-of-course SOL tests or other assessments approved by the state Board of Education. To graduate with an Advanced Studies Diploma, a student must earn at least 26 standard units of credit and 5 verified units of credit. Students who are enrolled in the Math and Science Academy will earn the advanced diploma as well as the Math and Science Academy Seal on their diplomas. In addition to the requirements of the advanced diploma, students in the MSA will complete an academy-level math and science course each year, a Magnet STEM course, and a senior project.
