Artwork Registration & College / Museum Showcase and Portfolio Review:

Saturday, January 31, 10:30 a.m.- 1:30 p.m.
make-up dates: Friday, February 6 and Saturday, February 7, 2026
The deadline to submit work is Saturday, January 31st at 1:30 pm.
Online digital application and drop off of original art is required
HRSG continues for 2 weeks: open to the public during TCC JUL Library hours
Awards Reception: Saturday, February 21, 2026, 11:00am- 12:00pm

Hampton Roads Student Gallery 2026 invites 11th and 12th grade students from across the region, from any public, private, or homeschool environment, to submit one work of art to our regional student art show.
All 11th and 12th Graders may submit ONE work of art per student.
Digital Submission AND In-Person Artwork Drop-off is required.
Physical Artworks should be dropped off at the Tidewater Community College/City of Virginia Beach Joint-Use Library-1700 College Crescent, Virginia Beach, VA 23453 (located on the SW corner of S. Rosemont Road and Faculty Boulevard)
Students are strongly encouraged to drop off their own artwork and experience the College and Museum Showcase - with optional portfolio reviews - and interact with fellow students.
Teachers are permitted to drop students' artwork if an applicant is unable to attend.
Students not entering HRSG may also attend the Showcase. All Events are open to the Public.
We encourage school-led field trips or carpooling opportunities for participants on both days.
Awards Reception: Saturday, February 8th, 11:00am-12:00am
Artwork Pick Up: Saturday, February 8th between 12:00 pm- 1:00 pm.
ALL entries other than FINALIST and HONOREES works must be picked up on this day from the Tidewater Community College/City of Virginia Beach Joint-Use Library (1700 College Crescent, Virginia Beach, VA 23453).
The award winners will receive additional information and dates of exhibitions.
General Submission Requirements:
Student Gallery Committee members may not accept works that do not adhere to the physical requirements listed in this prospectus and reserve the right to remove from the exhibition works that violate the code of appropriateness for the school district from which they derive or that of the institution or public venue that hosts the student gallery art display.
Photographing Your Artwork for Submission:
The image should be at least 300 DPI. You can find this information by right-clicking on the image file and selecting Properties. Prior to uploading through the digital form, save your artwork image on your computer as “HRSG [Your Last Name].”
Artwork Size Requirements:
2-dimensional entries must be no larger than 36 inches by 36 inches to the outside dimensions of the frame or mat. 3-dimensional entries cannot exceed 30 inches by 30 inches at the base and cannot exceed 72” high, including the base or pedestal.
Presentation Requirements:
• All 2-dimensional artwork, except for paintings on stretched canvas/ board, must be mounted on foam core, mat board or other secure backing.
• Framed work is not allowed. All works will be hung on display panels using velcro or hanging pins.
• 3-dimensional work must have a secure base or footing so works do not easily tip and should be ready for display.
• Attach HRSG labels to the bottom right corner of 2D works. These are provided in the HRSG prospectus package and available in person when dropping off registered artwork.
• Please indicate in permanent marker or other non-removable label your name and phone number/email on the back of 2D work or the bottom of 3D work.
• If the work is abstract in design, please indicate with an arrow on the back of the piece which side is up.
Original Artwork:
Artwork that has been plagiarized will not be eligible for judging or display. Student Gallery may or may not accept a student’s work depending on how the original form has been altered and the student’s intent regarding image use.

1st place receives $500
2nd place receives $300,
3rd place receives $100
Three works also receive HONORABLE MENTION
The 6 FINALISTS and HONORABLE MENTIONS will be displayed at The Chrysler Museum of Art The judges also select twenty works as HONOREES to be exhibited at the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art
Judges: The HRSG Planning Committee selects 3 Judges from the Hampton Roads Community who are professionals in the Visual Arts.
LABEL INSTRUCTIONS:
Please copy, cut, and print labels as needed. Additional copies will be provided at the art drop-off.
Please print each label no larger than 2.5 x 4.5 inches.
Please Keep the Font ARIAL, BOLD size 12.
Typed Labels are preferred, but neatly handwritten labels will be accepted.
