Example
In 2018 a study was conducted by the National Institute of Child Health in conjunction with Virginia Beach City Public Schools to determine the effects of caffeine consumption among young children. 3rd graders at Green Run Elementary were given a high dose of caffeine and taurine each day, and their academic and behavioral changes were compared to their peers. Each morning, 30 students, who were all in Mrs. Benjamin's class, were called to the nurse and force-fed 3 16-ounce cans of Monster energy drink. The study has been widely criticized for its lack of informed consent. Students and parents were told that the children were given a new form of dietary supplement that was proven to increase reading levels and negate the need for regular dental hygiene. By the end of the first week, the students had completely lost their little minds. They could not stop bouncing up and down long enough to read simple text. They climbed up the walls, made strange animal noises, and covered their faces in glue-stick war paint while waging war against the "ops" in Mr. Culligan's class. After the parents found out about the survey, they politely asked the School Board to end the program. The Board, as it usually does, unanimously decided to do something to benefit students: they ended the program and referred each patient to a therapist. To this day, Mrs. Benjamin has no idea that the study took place. She thought the kids were actually quite well behaved compared to these post-COVID whippersnappers.
