Hello, Interviewers--
Thank you so much for agreeing to be a part of this important event. You should have gotten your scheduled times for interviewing from Ashley Cline via email. Feel free to contact them directly with any questions. Email info If your schedule begins at 9 a.m. please arrive for a brief orientation session at 8:40 a.m. in the Cup and Saucer. Please use Door 7 (the main high school entrance near the flag pole) that day. Please avoid using Door 13 as we will have ACT testing going on in our Commons that day. After the brief orientation, we will help you find your interview location where all the materials you will need for the day will be located. If you are beginning your interview session at noon, please watch the video orientation (to be posted soon). When you arrive, someone will assist you with finding your location. We are located at 818 N. Franklin Street, Van Wert, OH. The best place to park is south of the school using the southern most driveway.
Each student is scheduled for a 30-minute interviewing block. When you arrive at the interview room, you will find a folder for each student containing all the student's interview materials. Each senior has prepared a resume, references list, cover letter for a Mock Job Posting, and generic application. Also in the folder will be a sheet of questions and a scoring rubric. These last two items can be accessed below. Everything you need will be provided on March 4.
We will provide a box lunch in the Cup and Saucer. You may enjoy your lunch in that area or return to your interview space to eat. If you are only with us for the morning, please take a lunch with you. If you begin interviewing at noon, we invite you to arrive early to enjoy a lunch on us.
1. Invite the student into the room. Introduce yourself. Our students have been instructed not to enter the room until invited. You will have a list of students, their programs, interview times, and copies of any job postings for which they could be applying.
2. Please conduct a formal interview for 10 to 15 minutes. You need to stay on schedule. Please do not begin interviews ahead of schedule. We need each interviewer to ask the first five questions on the question sheet that will be in each folder (also available for preview below). Asking each student these questions helps us standardize the process. You may make as many or as few notes as you wish. Beyond these five standard questions, you may ask any other questions you like. Note: if a student arrives late, you can decide whether to conduct the interview on a shortened schedule or decline to interview them. Either way, please make a note of the situation in the student's folder. If a student does not show up for the interview, note that as well.
Please conduct this like a "real" interview. However, if you find a student struggling, feel free to stop, encourage, regroup, and move on. However, you should score the student according to his/her performance in that interview.
3. After you conduct the formal interview, take 5 to 10 minutes to debrief with the student. Please share with the student what he/she did well during the interview as well as any suggestions to consider for future interviews. Our students appreciate critical feedback and will welcome your frank comments. This frank discussion after the Mock Interview is the most valuable part of the process.
4. With the remaining time before your next interview, please complete the scoring rubric. You only need to write a score 0 to 5 in the green box (five is the best). There is no need to tally any scores. You are welcome to write any comments on ANY documents in the student's folder, but do not have to do. Place all the documents for that student back in the student's folder.
The Mock Job postings can be found here.
Email Ashley Cline at cline.a@vantagecareercenter.com if you want a PDF copy of the rubric emailed to you.
