Matt Newman took over as the head boys coach at River in 2023. Prior to that he served as a long time assistant helping the boys program win league, district and a state championship.
Matt has experience as a multi-sport D-3 athlete playing Football and Tennis at Illinois College. Matt received his BS in Health Studies: Community Health Education degree from Portland State University and is currently a school counselor at Gaiser Middle School. Growing up Matt played soccer for FC Vancouver, Tri-Mountain Soccer Club, and Ridgefield High School. At Ridgefield High School, Matt earned a varsity letter all four years in soccer while also earning multiple First Team All-League honors in both soccer and football.

Ryan has been Filly's right hand man at River since starting coaching in 2013. He is currently a varsity assistant coach and the goalkeepers coach with the girls program. During that time Ryan has helped develop two first team all-league goalkeeper, three goalkeepers who have gone on to play collegiately and one league defensive MVP. While apart of the coaching staff, the girls program has been able to win 7 league titles, 5 district titles and 2 state titles.
Ryan was a 4 year letter winner as a goalkeeper at Ridgefield, where the Spudders appeared in two state championships. Ryan was 1st team all-league and all-state in 2005, his senior year. Ryan is an AVID WSU fan where he completed his undergrad in Sociology. After a year of working in the NFL for the Miami Dolphins Ryan came home and after a couple years of working in schools and coaching Ryan finally completed his Masters in Teaching at Concordia and now teaches Middle School at Gaiser Middle School.
In his free time, Ryan enjoys golfing and spending time with his fiancé (Allie) and their two dogs Rivers and Gus.
