Principal's Message
February 2026
Dear Mozart Elementary Families,
The second semester is off to a strong start and has already been jam-packed with intentional instruction and meaningful student learning. Our teachers continue to plan purposeful, engaging lessons that support student progress and academic growth across all grade levels.
Daily attendance plays a critical role in student success. When students are present and on time, they are able to fully engage in instruction and take advantage of valuable learning opportunities. We also encourage families to support student participation in our after-school tutoring programs. These sessions provide additional academic support, targeted instruction, and valuable practice that help reinforce classroom learning.
Motivation from home makes a powerful difference. Encouraging your child to attend school daily, participate in tutoring when needed, and stay committed to learning helps build confidence and long-term success.
Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to ensure a successful and productive semester for all students.
Respectfully,
Maria Cantu

Mozart Elementary's core values
Supporting Our Core Values at Home
At Mozart Elementary, we work every day to help students live out our core values: Be Safe, Be Responsible, and Be Respectful. These values guide our expectations, shape our school culture, and help students develop strong habits that will serve them well in and out of the classroom. Your partnership in reinforcing these messages at home makes a tremendous difference.
Here are a few simple ways families can help support these core values:
Be Safe
Talk with your child about safe choices—online, at home, and in the community.
Establish routines like consistent bedtimes, healthy meals, and safe technology use.
Encourage them to speak up if something doesn’t feel right.
Be Responsible
Help your child practice responsibility by setting up a spot for their backpack, homework, and school materials.
Encourage them to take ownership of their actions, finish tasks, and ask for help when needed.
Model responsibility by following through on commitments and showing how to manage time.
Be Respectful
Practice active listening at home—taking turns speaking and acknowledging others’ feelings.
Encourage your child to use kind words and show empathy toward family members, friends, and classmates.
Model respectful communication, even during disagreements.
When students see these values emphasized both at home and at school, they learn that these expectations are not just rules, but lifelong skills. Thank you for your partnership and support in helping our students grow into safe, responsible, and respectful young people. Together, we build a strong and caring school community.
Being kind to others is essential for fostering positive relationships and enhancing overall well-being. Kindness not only benefits the recipient but also the giver, creating a cycle of positivity that can improve mental and physical health.
Mental Health Benefits
Acts of kindness can reduce stress and anxiety, leading to improved mental health. Engaging in kind behaviors releases endorphins, often referred to as the "helper's high," which boosts mood and promotes happiness.
Social Connections
Kindness strengthens social bonds and fosters a sense of community. When individuals practice kindness, they create an environment of trust and support, which can lead to deeper relationships.
Physical Health
Research indicates that kindness can have positive effects on physical health, including lower blood pressure and improved immune function. This connection highlights the holistic benefits of being kind.
Encouraging Kindness
Practicing kindness can be simple and can include small gestures like complimenting someone, helping a neighbor, or volunteering. These actions not only uplift others but also contribute to a more compassionate society
"When you are kind to others, it not only changes you, it changes the world."

Attendance Matters
At Mozart Elementary, we know that every minute of learning counts! When students arrive late, leave early, or miss a day, they miss valuable instruction, discussions, and activities that support both academic and social growth. Even small amounts of missed time can make it harder for students to stay on track, as key lessons and practice opportunities are difficult to make up later. Over time, those few minutes here and there truly add up.
We understand that appointments and family needs sometimes can’t be avoided. Whenever possible, please try to schedule these outside of school hours and help your child be at school on time and ready to learn each day.
Instruction begins at 8:00 a.m. Please ensure students arrive on time so they are ready to start the day and not miss valuable learning.
Dismissal is at 3:45 p.m. Parents, please make the necessary arrangements to have students picked up promptly at dismissal time.
Early pick-up cut-off time is 3:00 p.m. To minimize classroom interruptions and ensure a smooth end to the school day, early dismissals must occur before this time.
Thank you for your cooperation and support to ensure every student has the best opportunity to succeed!

Language Arts Update:
In Language Arts, students are exploring different animal habitats! They’ve been listening to stories, answering questions, and taking part in class discussions to learn how animals live in different environments. Students also created their favorite habitat and proudly presented their work to their classmates. It’s been a fun and engaging way to build comprehension and speaking skills!
First Grade Fun:
Wonderful things are happening in first grade! Students are learning alongside their peers through class discussions, small group activities, and play. Our classrooms are friendly, engaging, and filled with meaningful learning every day. It truly is an awesome time to be a first grader!
Math Update:
In math class, students have been learning about different types of graphs and why they are important. They’ve explored how graphs help us organize and understand data by gathering their own information, creating graphs, and generating questions about the data. Students are building strong data analysis and critical thinking skills through hands-on learning!
2nd Grade
Mrs. Montoya's students have been busy learning in exciting and hands-on ways! In math, they explored area by using square inch and centimeter tiles to build, measure, and truly understand how space is covered. They even created their own beautiful tessellations, combining creativity with mathematical thinking! In science, students learned about the Three R’s — Reduce, Reuse, Recycle — and took their learning a step further by designing new toys out of recycled plastic bottles. Through peer collaboration, movement hooks, and engaging discussions, students strengthened both their teamwork and critical thinking skills. While learning about environments, students have also been observing their surroundings to identify living and nonliving things, as they connect classroom learning to the real world around them. One of their favorite parts? Becoming “mini teachers” and showcasing their work to classmates — they absolutely love sharing their thinking and teaching others!
Mrs. Vazquez' students have been learning in meaningful and hands-on ways across subjects! In science, they explored the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling, and put their creativity to the test by designing and building new toys using recycled materials. It was amazing to see how everyday items can be transformed through imagination and purpose! In math, students have worked collaboratively to explore area using square tiles and centimeter tiles. They created their own tessellations and discovered how shapes can fit together without gaps or overlaps. To deepen their understanding of arrays, they even used real-life items like beans to build rows and columns! Students proudly showcased their work to their peers, stepping into the role of “mini teachers” as they explained their thinking and strategies.

February was a month full of learning, celebration, and memorable moments for our fourth graders. From hands‑on classroom activities to special campus events, students had so many opportunities to shine. This month reminded us how much they are growing, not just academically, but in confidence, teamwork, and curiosity.
As you look through these photos, you’ll see snapshots of the hard work, creativity, and excitement your children bring to school each day. Thank you for supporting them, encouraging them, and partnering with us to make these experiences possible. We are so proud of everything they accomplished in February and can’t wait to see what March brings!

💯🎉 100 Days of Learning, Laughter, and Growth! 🎉💯
Today, our four incredible 5th grade classes celebrated the 100th day of school! From the very first day to day 100, our students have grown so much—academically, socially, and emotionally. ❤️📚 They’ve worked hard, supported one another, and shared countless smiles along the way. This special day was a joyful reminder of how far they’ve come and how proud we are of each and every one of them. Here’s to 100 days of memories and many more still to come! ✨🎈
Students in Mr. Lozano's class are bringing Shakespeare to life! Through our A Midsummer Night’s Dream unit, students dive into reading, discussion, and hands-on activities that help them understand the story, explore its funny and magical moments, and make sense of Shakespeare’s language. Along the way, students build strong reading skills as they analyze characters, talk about big ideas like love and problem-solving, and use evidence from the text to share their thinking. Learning is active, engaging, and full of imagination!
Students in Mrs. Vasquez's class collaborated during a revising and editing activity, identifying sentences that needed improvement and working together to revise them for clearer, stronger writing. Through discussion and teamwork, students sharpened their editing skills, shared ideas, and learned how thoughtful revisions can make writing more effective and easier to understand.
Students in Mr. Rios' class worked together to create posters that show how Earth’s surface changes over time. Through hands-on collaboration, they modeled and explained how wind, water, and ice shape the land—forming landforms like valleys, hills, and riverbanks. These group projects helped students share ideas, think critically, and proudly showcase their understanding of how our planet is constantly changing!
Students in Ms. Renteria's class worked together to create posters showing how plants and animals survive in a healthy ecosystem. By exploring how living (biotic) and nonliving (abiotic) factors like sunlight, water, plants, and animals interact, students shared their understanding of how ecosystems support life. Collaboration, creativity, and scientific thinking were on full display!
Fine Arts
Exploring Empathy Through Art 🎨💛
Our students spent time in Art Class diving into Character Strong lessons focused on empathy and kindness. Through creative drawing, storytelling, and thoughtful discussions, they explored what it means to understand others’ feelings and show compassion in our school community.
Proud of the heart and creativity our young artists shared today! 🌟
Students are working in groups to research a dance style of their choice. They are creating a slide show on Canva and will soon present what they learned about the dance type they choose, to their classmates. Working in groups helps students build teamwork and communication skills, take responsibility for their role, solve problems together, and gain confidence while sharing ideas. This project supports both learning and real-life skills.
Girl Scouts
Girl Scout Troop 1104 at Mozart Elementary is now celebrating its 4th year! What started with just 7 girls has grown into a strong, vibrant Troop of 28 Girl Scouts and 23 dedicated parent volunteers. Together, they’ve built a community of creativity, leadership, and friendship that continues to grow each year.
🌿 Troop 1104 Is Growing Something Beautiful! 🌿
Our Girl Scouts have officially begun their Journey into gardening, using resources wisely, and caring for the environment! 🌎✨
This week, the girls accepted an exciting challenge—to design, plant, and nurture a community garden at our school. From sketching their own garden layouts to planting the very first seeds, Troop 1104 is learning the power of teamwork, responsibility, and giving back to the earth. 🌱🪴
We can’t wait to watch their garden (and their leadership skills!) bloom. 💚🌼
