Yes, yes, yes! VOB is an incredibly welcoming place for first-time performers. Our casts always have a wide range of experience, and our artistic teams do a great job of making sure that everyone feels comfortable with the show material.
We’re always looking for student technicians to help us out with our productions. We could always use help with board operators, run crew, backstage costume/prop assistants, and more. If you’re interested, please contact us.
Not at all. VOB consists of a diverse group of people with different academic and professional interests. What we all share is a love of musical theatre, and if you’ve got that, welcome aboard. If it makes you feel any better, this year’s president and vice president are majoring in Cognitive Studies/Mathematics and Elementary Education/Child Studies, respectively!
Usually, auditions require a prepared one-minute snippet of a song and a one-minute monologue. You’re welcome to sing a cappella, but a karaoke track is preferred! Depending on the artistic team, there may be some added bells and whistles, like an assessment of vocal range or a little audition dance. Specific requirements for upcoming productions will be detailed on audition flyers and on this website.
Our rehearsals are usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays 7-9 PM, Saturdays 11-3 PM, and Sundays 12-4 PM. You may not be called for every rehearsal, though, and the artistic team is good about getting out rehearsal schedules.
Nothing! We only charge our members for our entirely optional T-shirts, and they’re usually $10-$12, depending on the design.
Being a “VOBber” is, in the words of our conductor, SO FUN. Not only do you get to tell beautiful stories through theatre, but you also get to hang out with a quirky bunch of people who genuinely care about one another.
