Academic Practice:
The ability to use your time wisely and complete required work when it is due, is a skill you will use all your life. You are expected to spend time outside of class to finish the day-to-day work you may not have finished in class, reflect on and practice new concepts, and also to complete longer research projects.
Assessments:
All students enrolled at Summitvue will participate in district and state required assessments administered in the fall, winter, and spring. ISAT testing is scheduled for April and early May with all grades participating in Reading, Language and Math; and 8th Science ISATs. Students will also take Mid-Term/Semester and Unit assessments.
Chromebooks:
Chromebooks are technology devices used to access curriculum, instruction, or assessment. Any misuse of Chromebooks and/or District Technology may result in the student losing access.
Class Schedules:
Students select their classes for the upcoming school year during spring pre-registration. It is important that students select classes carefully during this time. Once student schedules are set, class changes will not be made except under extraordinary circumstances. If a schedule change is desired, a written request by the parent must be made. Summitvue Middle School reflects the philosophy of open and equal access to rigorous courses for our students throughout the school.
Conferences:
Parent + Student Conferences will be held during the middle of the first semester. We ask that students attend with parents for the purpose of communicating both positive and constructive goals for the family and the student’s benefit. Notices of scheduled dates and times as well as if they will be in person or virtual will be sent home with students. Parents and students are strongly urged to make a special effort to attend. If parents wish to schedule additional conferences during the school year, they may do so by contacting the office or the counselor.
Counseling Department:
Summitvue Middle School has two school counselors on campus. Students can request a meeting with a counselor through the main office or by submitting a request via their Google Form.
Digital Hall Passes:
If a student leaves the classroom during class time, they will use a digital pass. The pass needs to be approved by their current teacher prior to leaving the classroom. No Hall Passes can be used during the FIRST 10 minutes and the LAST 10 minutes of class, except for emergencies.
Elevator Use
The elevator is available for students whose physical impairment limits them from using the stairs. You must provide a doctor’s note to the office before using the elevator.
Emergency Plan:
Vallivue School District has a written emergency plan in the unlikely event that students need to be sent home due to an emergency such as an earthquake, fire, severe weather, hostage crisis, etc. If an evacuation is necessary, parents/guardians will be notified via Infinite Campus alert system.
If students must be sent home, the regular route bus plan will be utilized. Information of the emergency closure will be provided by the school district for use by Infinite Campus alert system, television and radio stations.
Emergency Evacuation/Fire Drills District Policy #514:
Each school building principal or designee will implement, schedule, and carry out evacuation/fire drills in compliance with the emergency plan. Evacuation/fire drills are to be conducted at least once each month when school is in session.
Infinite Campus:
Infinite Campus is our student information system. Parents and students are able to view grades, attendance, schedules and a host of other items. To access Infinite Campus, you must have a username and password. To request access or to request a password reset, call our registrar at 208-453-4547. NOTE: Parents must “opt in” to receive notifications on attendance and grades. This can be done during the Annual Review completed each year by all Vallivue School District families.
Principal Peak Performers:
Eighth graders that have earned a Rolling GPA (grade point average) of 3.5 or greater throughout their middle school years (including the 1st semester
of 8th grade) will receive recognition for this achievement.
Progress Reports And Report Cards:
Students will receive a report card at the end of each semester, as well as a progress report at the midpoint of each quarter. If a parent/guardian desires a conference, it must be scheduled through the counselor’s office. Parents are encouraged to access the Parent Portal in Infinite Campus via the district website to help monitor student progress on a weekly basis.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY:
Academic dishonesty occurs when students obtain (Plagiarism) or assist others (Cheating/Exchanging work) with the intent to obtain credit for work which is not their
own. Students are expected to display integrity and commitment to their school work, and academic dishonesty is not tolerated. Both acts are considered
academic dishonesty. Incidents of academic dishonesty will be documented, reported to parents/guardians, and can result in removal from a course.
Incidents accumulate over the course of each academic school year, across all courses in which the student is enrolled. This policy applies to all students involved in the
incident, including those who provided the original work. Incidents of academic dishonesty will result in:
1. First Offense: A score of zero with the option to redo the assignment for reduced credit (at the discretion of the teacher). Documentation in Infinite
Campus. Parents/guardians and the student must sign a notice of policy violation and complete any additional requirements at the administrator’s
discretion.
2. Second Offense: A score of zero and referral to the administration with a mandatory parent meeting and the signing of a second notice of policy violation.
Second documentation recorded in Infinite Campus. Potential failure of the course and/or removal from the course (at the discretion of the teacher and
administration; when considering the nature of the course)
3. Third Offense: Possible failure and removal from the course. Documentation in Infinite Campus.
