Cell Phone Expectations

All students are required to turn off their personal communication devices (PCD) and securely store them in their cars or lockers upon arrival at school. At no time is a student allowed to have a PCD on their person (pockets, backpacks, wearables, etc) while on school campus.

 A PCD must be stored away during all school hours, including lunch, passing periods, snack break, etc. Students may retrieve their personal communication devices only after the official end-of-day dismissal bell has rung and they have fully exited the school building. 

 All personnel are mandated to rigorously enforce this policy on campus.

Cell Phone Exceptions

PCD use and/or storage-location accommodations may be made for students with medical or health needs (e.g., diabetes monitoring). In these case-by-case circumstances, phone use and/or storage will be determined by administration or the IEP/504 team.

Cell Phone Consequences:

• 1st violation: The device will be confiscated until the end of the day, at which time the parent/guardian may reclaim it from the principal’s office. This electronic violation will be documented in the student's records.

• 2nd violation: The device will be confiscated and a meeting between parent/guardian with administration must be held before reclaiming the device. This electronic violation will be documented in the student's records.

• 3rd violation: The student will receive a behavioral referral for insubordination and receive an out-of-school suspension for disciplinary action.

The building principal or designee may impose additional consequences if the use of a PCD violates other school policies. Prohibited actions include capturing, recording, or transmitting an image or video of an individual without proper consent, as well as using a PCD to violate a student's privacy in restrooms or locker rooms. Additionally, using a PCD in any way that threatens, harasses, embarrasses, or intimidates another student is strictly prohibited (see Policy 506.50). PCD use that constitutes fraud, theft, cheating, or academic dishonesty will also result in disciplinary action. Violations that involve illegal activity may be referred to law enforcement. 

The district is NOT responsible for theft, loss, damage, or vandalism to any personal possessions, electronic communication, or entertainment devices brought onto its property.
