5th grade Authors Read to 1st grade!
7 Students were chosen to read their fear story books to the 1st grade classes. The 5th grade GT class spent several weeks planning, writing, editing, designing, drawing, and constructing their amazing books. This was an inspiring experience for the 1st graders as well! *Click through all the pictures to view them in action!

Theme Park Rollercoasters . . .
Design and create! Teams of students were given a challenge of designing & creating a rollercoaster with a theme and limited supplies. They had to keep track of design modifications, budget, and testing!
LANTERNS.....glowing with circuits!
Students chose a style of lantern, made a small model, then enlarged it! They designed the circuit and added creative artistic touches! The glow shows! Lots of effort on this challenge!

Students first spent a day researching a spider. The next week they interviewed each other about their spiders. Then they had to write about the other person's spider in 2nd person narrative. They typed that up and drew a realistic image of that spider. Lots of learning and creativity with spiders!

Small groups were given a bag of few supplies and 12 minutes to create a vehicle to race down the track! The creation that made it the furthest distance before going out of bounds won! Innovative designs, creative thinking & collaboration, and great fun were the results of today's first challenge!
MATH CHALLENGE! . . . Building Higher Thinking & Solving Together!
Small groups were randomly selected and given an envelope with clues to solve their math challenge. They had to work together to share their information and knowledge to solve these higher level thinking challenges.
