📚 Academics This Week
Spalding
Students will take a 30-phonogram test on Thursday.
Spelling
Weeks 1–2 focus on reviewing phonograms, handwriting, and Spalding notebook setup.
Spelling officially begins Week 3; first list goes home Friday, Week 2.
Please encourage neat handwriting and proper letter formation.
Reading & Vocabulary
This week’s story: “The Bundle of Sticks” (from A Flint Holds Fire)
A printed copy will be provided—please return it to the sheet protector in the blue homework folder daily.
Test on Thursday: Includes vocabulary (closed book) and comprehension (open book).
Vocabulary lists will be sent home Friday—please study daily.
On all reading tests, students are expected to use correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
Tip: Class comprehension questions (completed Mon–Tues) will help prepare for the test. Look for corrected copies at home by Wednesday.
Language
Reviewing parts of speech and the four sentence types (declarative, interrogative, imperative, exclamatory).
Keep Daily Grams sheets for study; quizzes begin in Week 5 and occur every other week.
Math (Saxon Lessons 2–5)
L2: Reading & making bar graphs
L3: Identifying digits, writing 2-digit numbers
L4: Telling time to the half hour; estimating time
L5: Addends, sums, commutative property of addition
Science
New unit: “Animals Grow and Change”
