Graduation Coach

Mary Jo Sharp, Graduation Coach – Vale High School

As the Graduation Coach, I start working with students while they are still in middle school, helping them think about their goals and what they want their high school experience to look like. Together, we create a four-year plan for high school classes that helps students meet graduation requirements while also choosing courses that match their interests and plans for the future.

As students move through middle and high school, I check in with them, help them stay on track, and provide support when they need it. I work with students and families to make sure they understand their options and have a plan for what comes next—whether that means college, trade or technical school, the military, or entering the workforce. I also work closely with teachers, counselors, administrators, and community partners to connect students with the resources and opportunities they need to be successful.

Key areas of support include:

• Helping middle school and high school students develop four-year high school course plans and understand graduation requirements.

• Monitoring student progress and helping students stay on track for timely graduation.

• Assist with course selection, registration, scheduling, and academic planning.

• Providing individual and group support to address academic challenges.

• Helping students explore and plan for college, technical school, military service, or the workforce.

• Supporting students with college admissions, scholarships, financial aid, career opportunities, and college-level coursework.

• Connecting students with colleges, trade schools, military recruiters, and community resources.

• Collaborating with families and school staff to identify student needs and develop plans for success.

• Advocating for equitable opportunities and supporting the success of all students.
