Health
This year, we will use the Great Body Shop curriculum, covering topics such as Safety, Body Systems, Nutrition & Fitness, Social/Emotional Health, Illness Prevention, the Cycle of Life, Drug Prevention, and Community/Environmental Health. Health class will meet every Monday, and any assigned work will be due by the following Monday unless stated otherwise. Late work will not be accepted. If a student is absent, they are responsible for making up the work they missed.
Physical Education (PE)
In PE, students will explore their physical abilities and learn to work together as a team. Our activities will focus on personal fitness and team sports, where students will develop teamwork skills while maintaining a positive attitude. Units covered will include Kickball, Soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, Volleyball, Capture the Cones, Dodgeball, Cornhole, Badminton, Basketball, 4 Square/Wall Ball, and Pickleball.
Additionally, students will run the Pacer Test and the Mile once a month. If a student is absent on the day of either test, they must speak with me to make arrangements to make up the test or it will result in a zero.
If a student is injured, and I receive a doctor's note, they will complete an alternative assignment to earn their points
Parent/Doctor Notes:
Students with injuries or illnesses may modify their participation in PE with approval from the school nurse or PE teacher. Students with asthma are encouraged to bring their inhaler to class and should still participate in physical activities as much as possible.
If a student is unable to participate in PE for more than two consecutive days, a doctor's note is required. This note should detail the necessary modifications and the time frame for the excusal. Please notify me about any injury or health concerns so that I can be aware and support your child.
PE Grading Policy
Students will earn 10 points per day in PE. Points will be deducted for non-participation and inappropriate PE attire (e.g., shoes or clothing not suitable for physical activity). The criteria for the Pacer and Mile test are below:
Improvement:
Full Credit (20 points): The student improves their score from the previous month. (2 or more laps of improvement)
Partial Credit (15 points): The student maintains their score or gets 1 lap of improvement.
No Improvement (5 points): The student gets less than previously. They will receive a 0 if there was no effort.
Bonus:
Exceptional Improvement (Above and Beyond): If a student significantly improves their score
Increase of 5+ laps = +5 extra points (up to 25 points).
Improvement:
Full Credit (20 points): The student improves their time from the previous month.
Partial Credit (5-15 points): The student maintains their time or shows slight disimprovement.
15 points: Maintains or is slower by 10 seconds
10 points: Slower by 11-30 seconds
5 points: Slower by 31+ seconds
0 points: No effort
Bonus for Significant Improvement:

Notes for Students:
Progress Matters: The goal is to see improvement each month.
Effort Counts: Even if a student does not improve their score, showing consistent effort during the test is also important.
Missed Test: If a student is absent, they should make up the test, but they still have the opportunity to earn full points.
PE Attire
Shoes: Students must wear tennis shoes that are only worn indoors for PE. If a student needs shoes, please reach out to me—I’m happy to help!
Clothing: Comfortable, breathable clothing such as t-shirts, shorts, or sweatpants are highly recommended. Clothing should allow students to move freely and safely.
