PE
Expectations:
I would like to take the time to inform you about my expectations during PE.
All students are expected to participate in PE.
All students will need to bring a water bottle (no glass containers), and have it filled with water prior to their PE class beginning.
All students will need to wear tennis shoes. No sandals, flip flops, crocks, slides, heeled shoes or boots are allowed during PE. When PE moves inside the gym during cold months, students will need to bring a second pair of non-marking tennis shoes to be used only inside, or play in their socks. These do not need to be new shoes, they just need to be clean and not worn outside prior to coming to class.
You may also want to spray your child with bug spray during the fall and spring, since PE classes will be outside.
Please also provide a sweatshirt on cold days as we will be planning to stay outside as long as weather permits.
In the event of an injury, please bring a doctor’s note to be excused from PE.
These are the general rules/expectations of the PE department. All rules are geared to provide and maintain a safe learning environment, classroom order, and proper use of equipment and facilities.
PEACE
Protect Equipment- Equipment is to be used in the manner it is intended
Enter and Exit Quietly- Do not interrupt or distract others or activities in progress
Attention- Listen and Do- Follow directions given
Cooperate- Demonstrate proper citizenship, teamwork, cooperation, and effort
Esteem- Respect Self and Others- Good sportsmanship, teamwork, accountability, consistent effort
Classroom Management:
In the event of a student misbehaving I will follow a simple three step process.
The student will be removed from the game on the sideline and discuss how they could have handled the situation better. The student will then return to the activity.
If the student misbehaves again, they will be removed from the game until the student reassesses their behavior, recognizes their wrong doing, and completes a break and/or a refocus lap and/or a drink of water, and then the student may return to the class activity.
If a child misbehaves during class time a 3rd time, the student will be removed from the activity for the rest of the class time. The parent will be notified, and depending on the severity of the behavior, the child may be sent to the principal's office.
***There is absolutely NO FIGHTING. If a student is involved, or initiates a fight, they will be sent to the principal's office.
Absence:
In the event that your child is absent from school, they will miss their points in PE entirely if the absence is unexcused. If the absence is excused, the student will need to complete a workout for each day they missed in PE in order to receive full credit. The make up workout will be provided upon request.
