Master in Christian Counseling

1. OVERVIEW

The Master of Christian Counseling (MCC) shares the same counseling philosophy held in common by Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation and the Biblical Counseling Coalition, we train students to get a “biblical counseling” perspective. Our program is based upon the belief that the wisest words a counselor can speak are those from the Holy Scriptures, as they were written to help men and women with the most difficult problems in their lives. We foster students to believe that the Bible is ultimately sufficient for Christians to live out “every good work” that God calls his people to (2 Tim3:17), together with the conviction that other disciplines can be helpful as we seek to counsel.

The Master of Christian Counseling (MCC) degree program requires the English Bible exam and a field education internship to students. Upon completion of field education internship, an evaluation report is to be submitted to the Director of the MCC Field Education by a field supervisor. The student must complete 73 credits including 1 credit of field education internship as outlined in the MCC curriculum, including at least 36 credit hours at VACU.

To get a dual degree of MCC and MDiv, student may complete the Master of Christian Counseling (73 credits) plus the MDiv degree program in four-year (72 credits) with a total of 143 credit hours.

From the M.C.C. Program Director

The aim of the Master in Christian Counseling Program at VACU is to train students to become competent Christian counselors who advance Christ’s Kingdom in various ministry settings by equipping them to think theologically, live biblically, and engage globally. This means that: Students who think theologically will develop a professional counselor identity that is grounded in reformed Christian theology. Students who live biblically will demonstrate congruence between their faith and their actions in their personal and professional lives by maintaining a commitment to the process of ongoing spiritual formation. Students who engage globally will fulfill their call to serve others by being sensitive and response to the needs of diverse cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic populations.

We look forward to serving you.
