Cracked or damaged Chromebook screens happen — especially in busy classrooms. If you discover a screen that’s broken, don’t worry and don’t try to fix it yourself. Follow these simple steps to make sure the device is handled safely and repaired quickly.
💬 Pro Tip: If the cracked screen causes the display to flicker or freeze, do not plug it in or attempt a reset — just leave it powered off until picked up.
💬 Pro Tip: Encourage students to close Chromebooks using both hands from the center of the lid to help prevent future screen damage.
Do not continue using the Chromebook.
A damaged screen can get worse or become unsafe if the glass is cracked.
Set the device aside in a safe place.
Place it on top of the Chromebook cart,
Or put it aside where students cannot access it.
Do not attempt to close hard, press the display, or bend the device.
This can worsen the damage.
A Technology Specialist will:
Pick up the damaged Chromebook,
Bring it to the District Office for a screen replacement,
Return the repaired or replacement device to the school site once it’s ready.
Screen repairs are handled in-house and typically require device re-enrollment after repair, which Tech will handle for you.
