MILITARY INFORMATION

Recruiters from the various branches of the armed forces are available to answer student’s questions in the College, Career & Tutoring Center.

A.S.V.A.B. (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery)

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery is a must for students planning to join the military. The results of the ASVAB can be used as qualifying scores for entrance into the military services if the scores are no more than two years old. (The scores of a student in grade 10 may not be used for enlistment purposes.) The test includes sections on mathematics, word knowledge, paragraph comprehension, mechanical comprehension, electronics, etc. It is offered only once at our school during the month of November but students can take it through the military at various times during the year.

WORK Permit

Many students enter the world of work as minors (under 18 years of age). Students work for a wide variety of reasons—to earn income, gain on-the-job experience, or connect what they are learning in the classroom to the real world.

Minors employed in the state of California must have a Permit to Employ and Work (commonly referred to as a “work permit”). Work permits are typically issued by the school where the student is enrolled. Work permits indicate the location of the employer as well as the number of hours a minor may work.

Vacaville Unified School District Policy States: Students must maintain a 2.0 or higher GPA, and not have more than one truancy letter for work permits granted during the school year.

HOW DO I GET A WORK PERMIT?

Now that you have a job, before you can officially start you must have a work permit.

The work permit application must be completed entirely by you (including your social security), parent must sign and the employer must complete their part. The work permit application needs to be turned into the College and Career Center. If staff is not available, you can deposit the completed application (with all required signatures) into the black security mail boxes located in the Admin Office and Library. Applications will be reviewed, grades and attendance checked, and if you qualify a work permit will be printed and signed by the Work Experience Coordinator. Permit are available for pick-up within 48 hours.
