INTRODUCTION
Hi, I’m Mari LUOVA.
I was born in Vaasa in 1973, but my 15 years of childhood in Sweden left their mark on me – both culturally and creatively. I am a passionate sculptor, an intuitive painter and an uncompromising textile artist. Creativity has always been present in my life – it is the way I experience and express the world.
I have knitted since I was seven, danced almost all my life and have always lived with my hands. As a child I danced, as a young adult I immersed myself in rave culture and was a pioneer in the world of this genre. In my forties I boldly jumped into something new – I started in a hip hop competition group and found a new way to combine movement and self-expression.
My art arises from a deep intuitive state. It can be therapeutic, evoke emotions or leave a story that does not need to be explained. Spirituality, music, movement and form influence my works – they are like vibrations that transform into colours, surfaces and materials.
I love colours and aesthetics. I paint with acrylics, watercolours, ink pens and wood colours. In ceramics clay and glazes. In rugs yarns and wools that fate brings to me. Each of my works is a journey during which something unexpected is created, something that speaks without words.
