Café cuisine has both a practical and theory component, which will enable you to develop a wide range of knowledge and skills in contemporary food preparation working individually and as part of a team.
It focuses on popular sweet and savoury foods currently served in cafés, featuring foods from cuisines around the world.
What knowledge and skills will I build?
Develop practical skills in safely preparing and presenting food, selection and use of appropriate ingredients, cooking methods and equipment, while focusing on the design process.
What could this lead to?
This course could lead you into the Certificate 2 in Hospitality that currently runs at Upper Yarra Secondary College.
Career Pathways
Working in Hospitality front and back of house, ranging from serving customers to running a kitchen.

Designing and creating your own products which may include cheeseboards, trinket boxes, pot plant stands, stools, cooking utensil.

Using inspiration images to research existing products.

The focus is on baking a variety of sweet and savoury food products.
You will develop skills in a variety of baking techniques, from baking bread, pastries, cakes, slices and biscuits to savoury food products including pies and quiches.

Learning and experimenting a range of baking techniques and methods of cookery.
Experimenting with a range of decorating and presentation techniques.
