VCE VM & Blended VCE VM 2027

The VCE Vocational Major has specific subjects designed to prepare students for a vocational pathway. The subjects are: 

• VCE VM Literacy

• VCE VM Numeracy

• VCE VM Work Related Skills

• VCE VM Personal Development Skills

• 180 hours of VET at Certificate II level or above. 

Each subject has four units and each unit has a set of outcomes which are assessed through a range of learning activities and tasks. 

Students will apply knowledge and skills in practical settings and also undertake community-based activities and projects that involve working in a team.

Students may access and gain credit for any VCE subject in addition to the mandatory requirements of the VCE VM and structured workplace learning. 

The four main studies are assessed at a school level through authentic assessment activities. There are no external examinations for the VCE VM studies and therefore students do not receive a study score, and are not eligible to receive an ATAR. 

Students who have completed the satisfactory completion requirements of the VCE VM will receive a Victorian Certificate of Education with the words Vocational Major on it to recognise their achievements.

The Blended VCE VM program is designed to allow students to complete components of both the VCE  VM and VCE programs.

Students graduate Year 12 with the VCE VM certificate, and therefore will not receive an ATAR which is needed for university admission.

Students complete two years of the VCE VM Literacy and Numeracy program, plus the Personal Development Skills course at Year 11 and then the Work Related Skills course at Year 12. 

Added to this program will be one or two VCE subjects. These are determined based on student input and availability in the timetable. 

In these VCE subjects, students will not need to complete any external examinations and will only need to complete the requirements to obtain a Satisfactory pass determined by the VCE study design.
