Weaving, Basketry, And the Natural World
Learn about the Ho-Chunk Black Ash Basketry exhibition at the Paine Art Center and Gardens, and how Ho-Chunk basket makers practice sustainable use of natural materials while facing environmental challenges to their practice due to the invasive emerald ash borer. Participants can create weavings and/or small containers using simple craft materials and natural elements, echoing techniques used by basket makers. The information and activities in this class are adaptable to all age groups.

Friends of the Little Wolf River
The Little Wolf River is a treasured river that runs through Manawa, WI. It is known for its scenic beauty, rapids, and clear water. Tragically, on July 5, 2024, the dam breached in Manawa releasing over a century of sediment pollution and a million gallons of wastewater downstream. Come learn about how dams effect ecosystems and get the chance to study the tiny creatures(macroinvertebrates), who call the river home.
Ms. Planet, Naturalist Teacher
Learn observation by using the senses on how to see and feel more connected to the Earth, how to heal and relate with nature. Students will learn how to take that care and put it into doable action so that they can grow individually at home by conquering fears and growing themselves like a plant. Students will learn about morals, ethics, and civic duty to the planet to open their perspectives on finding more meaning and substance in life through nature connection and action alone. Demonstrating metaphorical action by playing a game Ms. Planet invented called the Caterpillar game. It teaches how to start a grassroots one-person movement.
Bottle Planters
Teach kids to reuse and recycle by leading them in a craft that includes taking 2-liter bottles and turning them into a planter for succulents. Also using construction paper to make animal faces on the planters.
Enhancing Your Senses with Nature Yoga (outside depending on the weather)
Forget the old idea that there are only 5 senses! In this session, we'll do outdoor observation exercises using senses you may not know that you had. This experience will enhance your awareness and appreciation of the world around you – and will likely recharge your energy levels too! If the weather doesn't cooperate, we'll stay indoors and do some fun nature yoga sequences and guided sensory meditation.
Fun with Flags: Vexillology for All Ages
This will be a laid-back all-ages crash course in studying and making flags. We'll have a brief history of flag study and then have some interactive activities involving making our own flags with art supplies.
