Dear student,
The UC department has created this checklist to help you prepare best for the university application season. The purpose of the checklist is to help you keep track of your task for the summer,
The checklist/tasklist is the student's responsibility.
*Kindly note*:
University counseling department of UWC Mostar will not create your university list for you or prepare financial documents, nor shall we write your college application/essays for you nor solve financial applications for you,
You must do your due diligence, explore universities and create your list.
We can however advise you whether your chosen universities might be good options depending on your IB score,
Ideally, you will have a list of where you are intending to apply by early September.
Please note you should complete all the tasks listed below during the summer break between year 1 and year 2 to make this process less stressful for you.
Tasklist for summer::
Thoroughly research your intended track/program and universities
Shortlist universities you plan to apply to (if you are applying to universities).
Note:
You can apply to 10 universities, out of these 10- a maximum 8 can be universities located in the USA.
UK universities- 5 programs/universities is counted as 1 application spot out of 10,
Ideally, your university list will have a mix of universities- we suggest having 1-2- dream
universities (very highly selective universities), 3-5 target universities (less selective schools), and 2-3 safety choice universities.
Prepare original previous school transcripts and translate them to English (if they are not in English).
-Send these documents to me and Adam via email, we need electronic copies not hard paper.
If applying to the USA- write a CommonApp activities list using a Brainstorming list
Draft college essay/ personal statement.
-Kindly note university counseling office will read your college essay/personal statements in August and September
Research standardized tests needed for the desired universities
Prepare for the standardized tests should you need them(ACT/SAT/SAT subject test)
Prepare for TOEFL/Duolingo should you need them
If applying to the U.S. universities the student will:
Go through financial aid documents and applications with their guardians/parents
Prepare financial aid documents:
-including but not limited to bank statements, employer statements, GIP forms (BIH students only), benefit statement
-financial aid documents need to be translated to English by official translators (notary, or court translators or is a relevant official translator in your respective country)
Please note that the amount and type of financial documents will depend on your family’s financial status.
You need to have documentation for everything you list in the financial aid documentation - the amount of money your parents earn, proof of employment or unemployment, proof of social benefits (unemployment benefits, retirement, not able to work), GIP (BIH only), tax forms (if your country has the taxation documents).
You may complete all US financial aid documents through the summer with your parents/guardians. Taxes, payments, and all documents needed as well as information that you need for the financial application should be from last two years
TIMELINE FOR FINANCIAL DOCUMENTS:
Ideally, you will have all needed documents before you apply as you need to submit them to the universities to which you will apply If you are thinking of applying early that would be October, if regular- late November
PLEASE DO NOT SEND THESE DOCUMENTS TO THE UNIVERSITY COUNSELING OFFICE- we can not send them to universities on your behalf

- WE will be reading drafts of essays/ personal statements for UK/USA/WORLD in AUGUST and SEPTEMBER
- Send in drafts via Google Docs/email and make sure you write the prompt/theme in the headline
