Hi everyone,
As you know, this week we commemorate the 105th anniversary of the beginning of the Armenian Genocide. Every year, Armenians from the Diaspora and the Republic of Armenia come together to remember the victims of the first genocide of the 20th century, where 1.5 million people lost their lives and many others were forced to leave their homes, the only places they knew and the land where their families had lived for thousands of years. Unfortunately, the genocide is, today, an essential part of the Armenian identity and Armenian history, for it explains why there are more Armenian living outside Armenia, than inside, and why the most important natural landmark of the nation —Mount Ararat— is now located in another country.
We thought that, especially for first years, it was very important that you did not miss out on learning about an event that marked your host country, and since this year we will not be able to go to Tsitsernakaberd —the Genocide Memorial in Yerevan— we could share with you some part of the commemoration.
This is why we have organized a series of events and digital content that we will discuss throughout the week.
