ACCESS TO EMAIL
UWC makes use of Gmail for its email system. All staff members and students at UWC will have an email account automatically created for them, with 10 GB of Storage.
Your email address will be your studentnumber@myuwc.ac.za
After successfully completing your registration, which includes receiving your student card and paying the required registration fee, you can expect that your university email address will be activated within 48 hours.
When you access Gmail you need to specify your full email address to login e.g. 1234567@myuwc.ac.za when you sign in at www.gmail.com
Your initial Gmail password will be the same as your Network/IKAMVA password but you will be required to choose a unique and secure password for your Gmail account. As the Password, Enter !St followed by your full South African ID number. International Students enter your passport number, select “next”
Make sure you read and understand the Google Terms of Service, and the Google Privacy Policy before selecting “Accept”
You will be forced to change your password (left) and then you will be prompted to enroll
in 2-Step-Verification (right)
A preferred complex password would contain Uppercase (ABC), lower case (ABC), special characters (! @ #) and alphanumeric characters (1q2W).This will not affect any other logins on campus (e.g. IKAMWA,Wi Fi etc.)
This second password change is for your own protection! It ensures that your email remains private for your own use. Do not compromise
the privacy of your student email account.
Should you need to reset your Gmail password, you have to contact ServiceDesk. Unfortunately, there is currently no automated password reset tool for Gmail.
