in 1970’s pioneer square was established as a national Historic District and a local preservation district by the city. Whereas in this time young LBTQIA people wanted to open up bars. So they strived to open up bar in a none expensive space which is where Capitol hill evolved into a new gay neighborhood. It because a safe having for the community with multiple bars, clubs and organizations opening to cater the community. The neighborhood played a very important role in advocating for LGBTQIA+ rights and creating a space of acceptance for people in the community.
