We’re a student-run debate team at the University of Washington, and everything we do is powered by passion, persistence, and the generosity of our supporters. Debate is more than just competition for us—it’s a chance to grow as thinkers, speakers, and leaders. But to make this experience accessible to more students, we rely on the support of our community.
Your donations make a real difference. They help us cover the essential costs that keep our team competing and thriving, including:
☆ Lodging: When we travel to tournaments, safe and affordable housing allows us to focus on performing our best.
☆ Transportation: From gas to rental cars, travel adds up quickly. Your support gets us to tournaments across the region and beyond.
☆ Tournament Fees: Every competition has entry costs, and your contributions make sure finances never hold us back from competing.
☆ Coaching Support: Our dedicated coaches spend countless hours guiding and mentoring us. With your help, we can honor the value of their time and expertise.
By supporting DSUW, you’re investing in more than just a team—you’re investing in the education, confidence, and future success of UW students. Every contribution, big or small, helps us grow and share the transformative experience of debate with more of our peers.
Thank you for believing in us and helping us keep our voices strong.

Another way you can support us is by volunteering! One of the biggest ways to help is by judging at tournaments. Each time a volunteer judge signs up, our team reduces the number of hired judges we need, which lowers judging fees and makes competitions more affordable for everyone.
No experience with debate? No problem! IPDA tournaments are designed for lay judges, and with a little training, you’ll be ready to go in no time. It’s a great way to support the team and see firsthand what our students are working on.
We especially need volunteers for the Seattle Classic, our joint speech and debate tournament hosted with Seattle University each winter. This is our largest event of the year, and extra volunteer support helps make it possible. Volunteers do everything from judging to giving directions to helping the tournament run smoothly behind the scenes.
Whether you can give a few hours or a full weekend, your help makes a real difference for our team. Contact us if you'd like to volunteer!
