Analysis and Reflection

Think about the Taste Test you conducted with the people you live with, and the data you collected.

Did you notice any trends? Were people "fooled" by the second solution after tasting the first solution?

Our sense of taste can adapt to the environment by physiological changes to both the tongue and the brain.

As we slowly get used to these changes, our perception changes. This new perception then impacts our choices.

What have we learned?

  • Exposure to high levels of sugar cause desensitization on the tongue and in the brain.
While the brain can adapt easily, other organs like the pancreas cannot.

  • Humans are consuming more sugar now than in the past.

  • High sugar intake is correlated with metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes.
