UW offers gender-inclusive housing for their on-campus residents. This is designed for transgender and gender non-conforming students and is different from mixed-gender housing. You will ONLY be placed with other residents who were approved for gender-inclusive housing, so if you pick a roommate beforehand make sure that they also fill out the application for gender-inclusive housing. There’s a short, simple application to be approved for gender-inclusive housing. All dorms offer gender inclusive housing EXCEPT McMahon Hall and Hansee Hall. On campus apartments and graduate housing follow different rules, but you can opt for gender-inclusive housing still (it may just function differently). Identity UW is a way to change what your name displays as in the directory, on your ID card, and in MyUW systems. Your diploma and anything related to HFS will still display your legal name, unfortunately. However, you can manually change your display names in Canvas (Account; Settings; Edit Settings; change name in all fields). Learn more about the logistics of what can be changed before a legal name change here: https://itconnect.uw.edu/guides-by-topic/identity-diversity-inclusion/identity/
