Learn all about the amazing world of 3D Design and 3D Printing! Starting from the ground-up,
students will learn everything they need to know to not only start creating their own 3D
Designs, but how to 3D print them as well. No prior knowledge of 3D printing is needed for this
class; it’s designed for students with no experience with 3D printing who want to learn.
The class will switch weekly between “Discussion Days”—days where we have a specific topic
on the world of 3D Printing to discuss—and “Design Days”—days where students are given
prompts and left to create them in TinkerCAD, a free online program designed to be an
introduction to 3D design. We will cover topics such as how to prepare your files for printing (a
process known as “slicing,” how to operate a 3D printer, and how to solve problems with the
designs you create.
Students will also have the chance to send files that they create or find, to be printed either
in-class or to be brought in the week after. Every student will walk away with their own 3D print!
This course requires the use of a laptop (no tablets). Students are encouraged to bring their own laptops for class activities. Laptops will be provided upon request for those who need them.
