About Us

The Physics Graduate Student Council (PGSC) is a collection of University of Washington physics PhD students who volunteer on departmental committees, as GPSS Senators, and in several other positions (see the full list on the home page).

We view our role largely as a communication conduit between the student body and the department/university. As indicated by the diagram at left, this can take the form of coordinating with the physics department, the GPSS, and the union. Who is that, you ask?

Graduate & Professional Student Senate

(GPSS): Students from all departments at UW advocating for grad students at university, state, & federal level. More of a government with a budget, executive appointments, etc.

United Auto Workers 4121: UW chapter of the UAW union, consisting of academic workers at UW (Academic Student Employees (ASEs) & postdocs)
