You can easily embed videos as a discussion post in Canvas using Panopto. Even if not recorded with Panopto, videos can be recorded in many different applications, then uploaded to a Canvas discussion using Panopto. If you're unsure about how/which software to use to make a recording, see our page on Presentation and Recording Tools.
Click 'Reply' in the Canvas discussion where you want to upload your video
Click the green Panopto icon on the editing toolbar (See screenshot below)
Click 'Upload' & locate the video saved on your computer (See screenshot below.)
Depending on your internet upload speed, it may take some time to fully process. You will see the status. You can just leave this window open and view other windows while processing. (See screenshot below.) If you're embedding a video that's already uploaded to/recorded in Panopto, select the default, 'Choose.' *Students will not be able to use the 'Choose' option unless permissions are set.
When it's ready you will see the word 'Processing' below the title of your video and an 'Insert' button will appear bottom right. Click it. (See screenshot below.)
The video will appear in the editor. It will take some time to process fully, but you don't have to wait. Click 'Post Reply' at bottom right and you're good to go!
