We gave the neighborhood an overall score of a 3 because we felt that all of our topics were both assets and barriers. For example we found that housing, transportation, and health all constituted both assets and barriers within the neighborhood. There were many available apartments within the area but also a large homeless population. We also found that public transportation is accessible but the sidewalks and infrastructure are not up to date. Overall we found that very few people utilized sidewalks which had an impact on the overall health of the community. There were several clinics available which was an asset but the clinics trended more towards alternative forms of medicine. Art was an asset to the community because there were many murals and public art pieces reflecting the culture of the international district. Much of the architecture was older which made it a barrier to the community in terms of safety. We found that race, ethnicity, and culture were an asset to the neighborhood because the neighborhood is extremely culturally developed. However, the language barrier has proven to be harmful to the neighborhood when it comes to political engagement. Overall we found that each individual population health topic impacted the other topics. For example the language barrier has caused a lack of accessibility to mental health care and the lack of new infrastructure has limited the safety of housing. Therefore we decided to give the International District a score of 3 because we felt that the neighborhood had as many assets as it had barriers when observing individual entities within the community.
