This guide provides instructions for preparing the game kits.
Important notes
First, calculate how many kits you need (1 kit per 4-6 people)
Prepare 2 envelops per kit. We recommend different colors to easily keep track of which folder to hand out at the different points in the game
Some materials come 2 or 4 to a sheet. This reduces the amount of printing needed.
Some materials can be laminated for re-use; other materials are single use since players will mark on them.
Attach the 4 chart posters on the wall or lay them flat on a table where the teams can easily access them. Only 1 set is needed since all teams will walk over to where the charts are located.
Download Options
Download ALL materials in one file (Letter, 4 sets): PDF
Download only the single-use materials (Letter, 4 sets). You can use these to replace previous materials that teams have already written on. PDF
Download only the reusable materials (Letter, 4 sets). These materials can be laminated for reuse. PDF
This item is a full single sheet print (no cutting needed).
2 copies per sheet
Cut in half and place one half sheet in each team folder
Single sheet per folder
Can be laminated for re-use
2 copies per sheet
Cut in half and place one half sheet in each team folder
Can be laminated for re-use
2 copies per sheet
Cut in half and place one half sheet in each team folder
1 sheet prints three sets of 1x1 inch image tiles.
Each set of tiles must be cut out from the printed sheet, and one set placed in each team folder. We recommend placing the cut tiles in a smaller coin envelope before placing them in the team folder.
An alternative option is to order 1x1 inch printed custom board game tiles (see below for instructions). This is good to save on cutting time and for re-use
4 copies per sheet
Cut each sheet in quarters and provide one quarter sheet per team
2 copies per sheet
Cut in half and provide one half sheet per team
Can be laminated for re-use
For running this game multiple times, a good option is to order hardier printed cardboard tiles from a custom board game piece printer. The supplier we've used is Board Games Maker, but there are other options. If you order printed board game tiles, you'll want to order 1x1 inch square tiles. You may use the individual PNG files in the Tile Images Drive Folder when placing your board game tile order. You will also likely be able to save the order if you create an account with the custom board game tile supplier, which should make reordering additional tile sets easier.
Note: board game tile printers will print the tiles on a single sheet and then die cut them. This process may have slight variations in the printing and cutting, such that tiles may end up with a thin white line along some edges of the printed tiles. We expect that this will not negatively impact the players' ability to solve the related puzzle.
This is a recommended layout for a 1 inch X 1 inch cardboard tile order from Board Games Maker. If using this layout, you will end up with three sets of tiles per printed sheet from the supplier, and each tile set will be together on the sheet. Please be careful when punching out the tiles when you receive your order, and be sure to keep each set of tiles together as you punch them out. Each tile set has 14 total tiles, with one each of the following letter tiles: A, B, D, E, F, G, I, L, M, N, O, R, T, and U. We also recommend punching the tiles out from the backside of the sheet to minimize the chance of tearing the image on the front of the sheet while punching them out.
