arXiv: Pre-print server used by most researchers to post their work both before and after publication. Thus, the content here could be active in the peer review process. This is a freely- available resource and is an ideal way to learn about and gain exposure to the research being produced daily across the world.
Inspire: High energy physics database that is great if you have very specific parameter searches (year, journal, authors, title line, cited by, references etc.). There is a small learning curve to the search syntax, but clear instructions are available in the “search tips” online. Unfortunately, the extent of this database tends to be smaller than that of arXiv.
Google Scholar: Aptly named, a Google portal search designed for scholarly articles.
UW Library: To access subscription-based publications from off campus, consider leveraging the UW libraries proxy bookmarklet to quickly access pay-walled scientific articles. If this does not result in access, the library itself has access to an abundance of journals and can scan articles of interest for your research under the Availability and Request options of your search.
Husky OnNet: For accessing UW data and services beyond those accessible through the library proxy, Husky OnNet is a virtual private network providing secure connection to the UW network remotely.
