Fellowship in Pain Medicine

The mission of the ACGME accredited Pain Medicine Fellowship Program is to provide world-class education in multidisciplinary pain medicine to physicians, who will then meet the needs of the community and beyond, advancing the art and science of pain medicine and assuming leadership in the field. Multi-Institutional Virtual Didactic Program

The Multi-Institutional Virtual Didactic Program is a series of teaching sessions on Zoom (12 pm EST, 9 am PST). In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, our fellows will necessarily have reduced pain clinic experience. This program was developed by faculty at the University of Washington and Brigham and Women's Hospital to help fill this gap by connecting and offering expertise from several pain programs in a series of virtual lectures. This program provides a unique opportunity to tap into expertise and interact with fellows and faculty across institutions. We currently have participants from the University of Washington, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Johns Hopkins University. Pain Medicine Clerkship

All medical specialties need a basic core competency in understanding how to take care of pain. The UW Division of Pain Medicine has developed the an integrated curriculum and elective clerkship opportunities for medical students to improve their care of patients experiencing acute and chronic pain. Residency Pain Rotation

The ACGME accredited Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine Residency Training Program at the University of Washington serves the educational needs for the five "WWAMI" states: Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho and offers four different residency training opportunities. NIH Pain Consortium CoEPE Modules

The Centers of Excellence in Pain Education (CoEPEs) were designated by the National Institutes of Health Pain Consortium, and tasked with the development, evaluation, and distribution of competency-based, interactive, interprofessional pain management curriculum resources for prelicensure health science students. Interprofessional Activity Learning Series

The Center for Health Sciences Interprofessional Education, Research and Practice (CHSIE) is the coordinating center for interprofessional education (IPE) at the University of Washington. The center's mission is to support innovative and sustainable interprofessional education, research and collaborative practice for students, educators, researchers, clinicians and patients. Innovations in Pain Research Summer Program

Scan Design Innovations in Pain Research Summer Program is for UW undergraduates offered through the Undergraduate Research Program. This research program exposes undergraduate students to interdisciplinary research in pain to stimulate interest in future careers in pain research. Learn more.

Honors Pain Course

Honors 222A ("PAIN") is a 5-credit Natural World/Science course, open to all disciplines, taught by world-renowned neurosurgeon, pain physician, and pain educator, Dr. John Loeser. Students in this course explore pain from multiple perspectives. Some of these include the physiology, pathophysiology, psychology and sociology of pain, the role of opioids in the treatment of pain, the epidemiology of and risk factors for pain and disability, and the subjective experience of pain. Includes guest lectures by content experts.
