University of Washington (UW) was home to the world's first multidisciplinary pain clinic, which opened in 1961 and became a world model for pain assessment, pain management, and pain education. UW is a national leader in the education of primary and specialty health care providers and engages in cutting edge research to improve health care delivery and patient outcomes. UW is a National Institutes of Health Pain Consortium-designated Center of Excellence in Pain Education. Our mission is to provide competency-based interprofessional pain education to prepare health science trainees and providers to effectively understand, assess, and manage pain.
